If you redirect your Joomla or WordPress admin area to be accessible only from one single IP, you will be able to completely secure your Joomla or WordPress website. You can do this without adding any complex code to the .htaccess file. Refer to the steps mentioned below:
- Login to your account and click on the ‘Secure Admin’ button.
- You will be asked to enter the IP address from which you are going to access the admin panel, if you know the IP address enter it otherwise you can get your IP address from whatsmyip.com.
- Enter the IP and click on ‘Continue’.
After completing this process, your ‘/wp-admin or /administrator’ folder can only be accessed with the IP address that you have provided. It is possible to add more than 1 IP address to this field in the list of ‘allowed IPs’ or you can also remove any existing entries.
